Potential Upgrade arrived in v1.0.9 on October 18. The developer confirms that a character’s potential can be upgraded by sacrificing characters of the same main class. That makes duplicate recruits worth reviewing before you discard them. The announcement does not specify a universal material count, maximum potential or success-rate table.
How Potential Upgrade works
Choose the character you want to improve, then inspect the eligible sacrifice characters in the current Potential Upgrade interface. The published rule is the shared main class, not simply a similar combat job. “Damage dealer” or “support” is not one of the seven class roots.
For example, a Warrior-root character and a Mage-root character are different main classes even if both are built for damage. Use the character panels and the upgrade screen to confirm eligibility. The patch note does not establish whether any particular combination of sub-class, rank, level or equipment is accepted.
Because this action sacrifices characters, review every selected unit before confirming. Do not assume an undo or refund mechanism exists.
A checklist before sacrificing a character
- Choose a recipient with a current job. Prefer someone who already contributes to a squad you use; do not spend only because an upgrade button is available.
- Compare the main-class roots. Read both character panels and check that the game accepts the proposed materials.
- Inspect every squad. A recruit that looks spare in the main party may be filling a useful slot in a second or third team.
- Review unique traits, skills and gear. Resolve any equipped-item transfer warning in the live interface before committing.
- Read the complete confirmation. Check required materials, cost, displayed result and any probability or limit that your current build shows.
- Compare after one upgrade. Record the old and new potential or stats, then retry the same stage with the rest of the setup unchanged.
Which duplicates should you keep?
| CHARACTER SITUATION | SUGGESTED DECISION | CHECK FIRST |
|---|---|---|
| Only available frontline or support option in a squad | Keep while that job is needed | Whether another character actually covers it |
| Same-main-class spare with no current assignment | Review as a possible sacrifice | Eligibility, talents, current gear and shown cost |
| Recruit with a useful alternative skill or trait | Compare before sacrificing | Whether it solves a stage your main unit cannot |
| Newly recruited duplicate you have not inspected | Pause and compare | Root class, skills, attributes and possible squad role |
This is a roster-planning framework, not a claim that one rarity or talent is always safe to consume. The Tavern can now recruit in batches, so review your duplicate-handling habits alongside the v1.0.9 recruitment changes.
Potential, class advancement and equipment are different decisions
| SYSTEM | WHAT IS DOCUMENTED | WHERE TO READ NEXT |
|---|---|---|
| Potential Upgrade | Sacrifice characters of the same main class to improve a character’s potential | Check the live upgrade requirements |
| Class advancement | The advancement screen now previews passive skills, normal attacks and active skills | Class paths and unlocks |
| Equipment and enchanting | Gear selection and affixes remain separate build decisions | Equipment · Enchanting |
Potential Upgrade does not establish that a character automatically unlocks a new class. Read Class Hall requirements separately. Likewise, investing in a character does not make unsuitable equipment fit its role.
Why the v1.0.8 attribute changes still matter
The preceding patch made Strength Potential a modifier for Critical Damage and Intelligence a modifier for extra MP recovery. These changes are a reason to inspect actual character stats and skill use after upgrading. Neither announcement publishes a universal formula for converting one sacrifice into a fixed damage gain.
If a character survives but rarely uses a skill, compare its current mana behavior and skill requirements. If it dies before acting, investigate positioning and equipment before expecting potential alone to fix the team.
Costs, limits and probabilities
The official v1.0.9 announcement confirms the feature and same-main-class rule. It does not give the number of sacrifice characters per step, a universal Gold cost, a maximum potential value, an unlock level, refund rules or a success-rate table. Read those values from your current game before committing resources.
Potential Upgrade FAQ
Can a Mage be sacrificed to improve a Warrior?
The official rule requires the same main class. Mage and Warrior are different roots; check eligible materials in the upgrade interface.
Do I need the exact same advanced class?
The announcement says same main class. It does not describe every sub-class or rank restriction, so use the game’s eligibility display for the actual pair.
Should I discard every duplicate recruit?
Review them first. A duplicate may be useful in another squad or eligible for Potential Upgrade.
Does Potential Upgrade replace class unlocking?
No such replacement is described. Continue checking the Class Hall’s separate progression requirements.
Is every upgrade guaranteed?
The announcement does not publish an odds table. Check the live confirmation screen; this guide does not assign a probability.
